6. Quick Design Rules for Accurate Patch Sizing
Small patches need simple art.
For sizes under 1.5", use icons, initials, or short marks instead of detailed text.
Text needs space.
For embroidered patches, increase the patch size if the design includes multiple words, small outlines, or fine details.
Border affects the visible area.
A merrowed or stitched border takes up space, so keep key art away from the edge.
Choose larger sizes for textured crafts.
Chenille, sequin, and 3D embroidery need more surface area than woven or printed patches.
Irregular shapes require max dimensions.
For custom shapes, quote the largest width and largest height, then check the artwork against the final production template.
Oversized patches should consider fabric weight.
Very large patches may need stronger backing and careful placement on jackets, bags, and uniforms.
